Master's Circle Event
Once in a while, a great opportunity presents itself, and those who are in position to capitalize reap tremendous rewards.

Those of you who are or have been members of The Masters Circle already know that one of the best ways to reconnect with your purpose and philosophy as a chiropractor is to listen to Dr. Lee Wood speak. While many of you may travel to see this visionary leader weave his magical web of practice-building and personal growth, he is coming to your area for a special one-day intensive.

For current members, this program intensive will re-establish some of the intimacy of the old regional seminars, and also make it easier and more cost effective to bring your staff. In addition to the lecture portion of the program, there will also be interactive exercises for doctors and CAs alike, to provide maximum take-home value in the form of specific strategies and procedures to grow your practice and yourself.

As you know, The Masters Circle is dedicated to raising the standards and the consciousness of the chiropractic profession, and this is one of the most direct ways to accomplish that – by coming to your town and eliminating any obstacles to you getting the information and the motivation you need to take your practice to another level.

And if you have never connected with The Masters Circle before this, it’s an excellent way for you to get to know Lee, to get a flavor for the kind of uplifting, cutting edge material we present, and to come away with some specific ideas for getting more new patients, educating them better so they stay, pay and refer, and working together as a profession to make your community and ultimately the world a better place.

This one-day intensive will take place on Thursday August 7, at the Holiday Inn Wilsonville, between 10am and 4pm, and registration begins at 9am. The event is offered at absolutely no charge, even to non-members – it’s a way for us to give back to the profession we love so much, and to introduce new chiropractors to our unique way of thinking, and help more of our chiropractic brothers and sisters to become more successful, help more people and build a better public image for our profession.

There’s no fee, but you must register so we are prepared for you – please call to register: Dr. David Duemling (503) 682-3811

Oregon Chiro Motorcycle Ride
Around Labor Day the Oregon Chiropractic Motorcyclists will take a 5-7 day ride through Eastern Oregon, Idaho, and Washington.

This is the first official announcement of the third annual event that takes place every Labor Day weekend.

Last year, the club rode down the Oregon coastline into Mendicino County, California. Two years ago the club rode into Penticton, Canada. Each evening the riders discuss motorcycling and chiropractic.

The 2008 ride promises to be the best. A base will be set up at a large lodge in Eastern Oregon where the club will take day trips and enjoy gourmet cooking by the chefs in the group. Rides will be made up the Snake River and Wallowa Mountains.

If you are interested or want further details, please contact Dr Peter Lind: 503-581-6846.

ALERT OF THE WEEK: HOMEOPATHY
Consumer Reports journalist, Doug Podolsky, took a stab at homeopathy in the recent issue of Consumer Reports. Despite over 200 years of successful use for a variety of ailments, homeopathy is quackery, according to Podolsky who writes, "Check whether over-the-counter products are labeled homeopathic. If they are, we think you should put them back on the shelf." Podolsky's Consumer Reports piece references a 2005 study indicating homeopathy is ineffective, but he fails to mention the study has since been debunked. Unfortunately, due to the prestige of Consumer Reports, the article has already gone viral, as marketing firms and pharmaceutical companies spread it far and wide in an attempt to snuff competition from the natural health world. Medicare Update
DIRECT FROM MEDICARE

Industry-Wide Enforcement of the National Provider Identifier (NPI) Compliance Date

On and after May 23, 2008, providers MUST begin using only their NPI (National Provider Identifier) on all HIPAA electronic transactions and paper claims submitted. All claims submitted after this deadline that have both NPI numbers and Legacy numbers or Legacy numbers only will be rejected. CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) is now requesting that providers begin to submit test claims without legacy/PIN numbers as currently used to begin to test claims and processing systems with NPI numbers only. After providers have first submitted claims containing both NPI number(s) and legacy identifiers and those claims have been processed correctly, Medicare urges you to next send a small batch of claims with only the NPI in the primary provider fields. Submission of incorrect claims will affect cash flow.

Instructions for test submission include:
Step 1
Bill with the Medicare legacy ID number and NPI. Once claims are successfully processed, move to Step 2.
Step 2
Bill with the NPI only. Start with a small batch of claims. When the results are positive, begin sending a greater volume and move to Step 3.
Step 3
Test the NPI only on other Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) transactions. Providers should begin testing the use of the NPI on these transactions in small quantities prior to May 23 to ensure a smooth transition.

As outlined in the Federal Regulation, The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), covered providers must also share their NPI with other providers, health plans, clearinghouses, and any entity that may need it for billing purposes. The NPI website is as follows: https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov.

ODOC statement on Public Health
Public health issues are paramount to the health and welfare of Oregon citizens and the nation at large. Many health problems stem from violating rational public health measures. For Oregon Doctors of Chiropractic, public health agendas relate to the health and quality of food, water, land, and air, and human health decline is directly related to the compromise of these four essential ingredients. Because of education, training, and clinical experience, chiropractors are prime agents in advising, assisting, and holding accountable the health and safety of public health matters in Oregon. Oregon Doctors of Chiropractic continues to network with associations and organizations that share similar tenants to promote positive public health measures for the good of the health of Oregon citizens.

Public Health Committee
Many associations were made in 2007 and much work was accomplished. 2008-9 promises to be even more promising as ODOC forges with like-minded groups and associations to help make Oregon a healthier state.

April 02, 2008
Legislative Committee
In 2007, much groundwork was made connecting with Public Health Causes, Legislators, and other chiropractors making a strong presence in Salem. Plan on 2009 to be a important legislative year for chiropractic. Please get involved by contacting Dr. John Schmidt.

April 01, 2008
Experimental Committee
Much work is being done by the ODOC chiropractic experimental committee to validate newer types of approaches in the practice of chiropractic.
